Welcome

Located in the heart of downtown, Laconia Housing Authority (LHA) is an organization that provides subsidized housing opportunities utilizing federal government programs at properties owned/managed by LHA (Sunrise Towers, Blueberry Place, Orchard Hill II and Northfield Village) and through partnerships (Tavern Inn/Stafford House and Normandin Square) and by the administration of Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly Section 8).

At select properties, LHA provides direct support services (meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, personal care) enabling tenants to remain in their homes even if a little assistance is needed.

LHA also serves our community through various outreaches, such as the United Way, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and the Turkey Plunge (which benefits the Salvation Army/Carey House; homeless shelter).

Please take a few minutes to explore our website and discover why Laconia Housing Authority is a valuable part of our community, and how you can get involved as a tenant or volunteer!

LHA is Recipient of Children's Literacy Foundation Grant

Laconia Housing Authority / Blueberry Place has been chosen as the recipient of a Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) www.clifonline.org Low-Income Housing Development Grant. This Grant will help with the library space that LHA will be setting up for Blueberry Place families in a meeting room in the new building being constructed by HTC. The Grant provides for $2,000 worth of brand-new children’s books to be kept and used in this library, professional storyteller visit, book give-away for storytelling participants, and literacy seminar for parents to learn about the importance of reading and books in their children’s lives at an early age. Different reading techniques will also be shown to parents. LHA is grateful for the support of CLiF in this endeavor for the enrichment of Blueberry Place families.

Huot Technical Students Construct Building for LHA

Under the direction of teacher, Dave Dupuis, 18 students in their second year of the Huot Technical Center (HTC) Building Construction program are building a 26’ x 36’ multi-purpose building for Laconia Housing Authority at the Blueberry Place complex. Students in the HTC Plumbing and Heating program, under the supervision of their teacher, Mike Capsalis, will also be working on the project. HTC students are getting hands on experience while making a difference in the community. A win-win situation!

LHA Properties Smoke-Free

It is the policy of LHA to maintain a 100% smoke-free environment on all LHA owned properties, (all facilities, buildings and grounds, including parking lots and driveways) promoting a safe and healthy environment for tenants, clients, employees, contractors, volunteers, and visitors.

On August 1, 2010, smoking was banned at all LHA properties. Tenants who lived in one of LHA’s apartments prior to August 1, 2010 were able to petition for an exemption which would allow them to smoke inside their apartment thru July 31, 2011. During the transition, LHA Service Coordinators (who are trained in smoking cessation programs), Breathe – New Hampshire (www.breathenh.org), and LRGHealthcare have offered assistance to tenants.

Effective July 31, 2011, all exemptions expire and all LHA properties will be completely Smoke-Free as of August 1, 2011!

Testimonials

"We feel so fortunate to have LHA’s congregate housing services available to my mother-in-law, Helen Clark. My husband Roger and I feel her living environment is enriched by not only the meal, laundry and cleaning services but by the very cheerful and kind staff which offer these services. We have also requested the weekly visits by a nurse made available by the housing services. It is a real comfort knowing that Helen’s meds are always organized and renewed as prescribed; that any questions she has are answered fully and patiently. Helen welcomes Nancy “her nurse” as well as well as the cleaning and laundry staff as friends. Roger and I visit regularly and are very pleased with her living situation."
